History

With the opening of a railroad, the economy of the city soared. As its

former slaves who had relocated there. During the Civil War, most of Decatur's

to flee the conflict relocated elsewhere in America. After the war, Old Town
was transformed into a working-class African-American neighborhood that

the course of the 20th century, Old Town blossomed into an active commercial
